How to cut CO2 emissions worldwide: Lessons from India’s LiFE

If all countries adopted the measures recommended by LiFE, we would achieve 20% of the CO2 emission reductions needed to put the world on a net-zero pathway

Improving energy efficiency and changing our habits and lifestyle will play a crucial role in attaining the Paris agreement target. Moreover, they will make the world’s energy use more sustainable. That is why we need initiatives along these lines, such as the Indian Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) initiative. LiFE is an important platform that could help lower:

1. Energy costs.

2. Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

3. Air pollution.

4. Inequalities in energy consumption.

According to a new report by the International Energy Agency, if all countries adopted the kind of measures recommended by LiFE, they would reduce global CO2 emissions by more than 2 billion tons by 2030. This alone would be equivalent to one-fifth of the emissions reductions needed this decade to put the world on a net-zero emissions pathway. Therefore, this is good news for meeting our climate change goals!

In addition, the measures would also save consumers around the world some $440 billion in annual energy bills and reduce inequalities in per capita energy consumption between advanced economies and the rest of the world.

A new age of clean energy technology manufacturing?

According to the IEA, the world is entering a new era of clean energy technology manufacturing. Good news for meeting our climate change goals!! 👍🌏

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the world is entering a new era of clean energy technology manufacturing. Good news for meeting our climate change goals!!

For the IEA, this the dawn of a new industrial era based on clean energy technology manufacturing. This “revolution” is creating new markets and millions of jobs.

The IEA calculate that the global market for key clean energy technologies will be worth approximately $650 billion annually by 2030. This is more than triple its current value. Examples of these technologies are: solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicle batteries, electrolyzers, etc.

The latest edition of IEA’s Energy Technology Perspectives (ETP) is the first global guide to the clean-tech industries of the future. It shows that manufacturing jobs in these sectors would more than double. The will increase from 6 million today to nearly 14 million by 2030.

The report also provides an analysis of the risks and opportunities surrounding clean energy technology supply chains. It highlights how current supply chains in mining, processing and resource manufacturing are highly concentrated geographically. With the rising prices of these same technologies in recent years, the world is already beginning to see the risks that narrow supply chains can pose to affordable and secure clean energy transitions.

Season’s Greetings from the Climate Change Summer School

To all our former and future students, faculty and staff, as well as their families, SpaCIE Climate Change Summer School wishes you health, peace, love and joy this holiday season and throughout the year 2023. We would like to extend these wishes to everyone, especially those who suffer from the unjust violence of war. May 2023 bring peace to the world!

SpaCIE greetings

And if you are still looking for the perfect gift for a loved one, how about giving them the gift of enrollment in our summer school A Multidisciplinary Approach to Climate Change. It would be a great way to enjoy next summer in Madrid.

Application window open for summer 2021!!

The dates for our 2021 edition are confirmed and the application period is open now!!

We expect that the SSMACC 2021 will be held in a similar way to the summer schools of previous years, but with some few precautions due to COVID-19.
